god, i used to be so obsessed with parappa the rapper. i don't exactly remember the circumstances of *how* exactly i stumbled upon the series, but
i know i was
11 years old and on vacation. what's important is that after i found out about parappa the rapper, i couldn't stop thinking of him.
boy, i love parappa... but in all honesty,
i have a much greater preference for lammy and her game.
perhaps this is a silly point to make about a kids game, but um jammer lammy feels a little more "mature" than parappa the rapper, just on the themes and music alone.
instead of stuttering your way through a queue to the bathroom, you get to FEEL BADASS with a GUITAR in a FUCKING AIRPLANE THAT'S SWAYING UP AND DOWN; and every single time you go up in rating, that energetic "YEAH!" in the background... such a perfect little detail.
all of this is despite the fact that um jammer lammy is the game i understand the least out of all the "parappa" games.
it's the only one that i have not beaten
all of the stages with the cool rating in; i just don't get how um jammer lammy handles that, it feels the most arbitrary out of all of them.
but whatever, it's the music that matters in a rhythm game most, and i love all of lammy's songs: from the funky Fire Fire!! to the frantic Fright Flight!! ...it's great stuff. oh yea, and THERE ARE SEPARATE VERSIONS OF THE TRACKS FOR PARAPPA THAT ARE ALSO (mostly) GOOD!!! just don't mind the fact that parappa's voice sounds like garbage thanks to a CD only having like 700mb of space on it.
no cutting corners, huh...
