Patapon (1 + 2)
year - 2007 + 2009
genre - Rhythm Strategy

patapon means a lot to me. a simple command-focused rhythm game with an equally simple vector-based artstyle, and a whole lotta magic deep within.

the sound of child-like voices chanting "PATA-PATA-PATA-PON!", combined with the mental image of a dozen walking eyeballs FEVER-ishly marching on forward, juggling up their weapons of war and doing happy little hops as they do so, will forever live in my brain's core. really, do yourself a favor and listen to "Bibiricchi Theme", it's catchy as hell.

and although all of the games are a little flawed in some departments (*some more than others, notice how 3 isn't included up there), they're all* really fun deep down. i'm just a stupid grinch who can't help but think of all the glaring issues in a piece of media i'm interacting with.

the second game is definitely my favorite, it improves on its predecessor on almost every front, but there's small aspects of the first one that i think are a little better in some regards; the addition of the hero was a double-edged sword, for instance.
